Cheryl Ann White MD PhD
Raised in a farm town in Northern California, Cheryl White set out for the East Coast to pursue higher education. With a Ph.D. under her belt, she delved into neuroscience research in the laboratory. But she always knew she wanted to work directly with people, using science to improve their lives. And so she went back to school to earn a medical degree at Harvard.
While assisting in a pediatric burn unit as a medical student, she found her calling. “The first surgery I participated in was releasing burn scars from a teenager’s underarm so that she could raise her arm for the first time since her injury. On that day, I knew I would be a plastic surgeon.”
As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. White carries out a wide variety of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures, including surgeries of the face, breasts and body. “The mix of reconstructive and aesthetic surgery is challenging and stimulating. Doing aesthetic surgery makes me a better reconstructive surgeon and vice versa.”
Dr. White has run a solo practice for 16 years, and serves the DFW community from her centrally located office in Las Colinas. She keeps her practice small. “I enjoy time with my patients,” she said. “My philosophy is to keep the volume low so that the quality of interactions and outcomes will be high. Patients are often surprised that I spend about an hour with them at the first visit, that I do the post-operative care myself and that I still perform in-office procedures like Botox and facial filler injections myself. The post-op patients get my email address so that they can reach out forever.”
Dr. White serves as vice chief of medical staff at Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital-Las Colinas, and is past Chair of Surgery at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center at Irving. When she is not working, she enjoys foreign travel and hiking and has trekked to Machu Picchu in Peru, through the rainforest in Australia and along the Baltic Sea in Sweden, among other locations. She and her physician husband even hiked in Iceland on New Year’s Eve one year. “That was another-worldly experience. The landscape and the winter lighting were so foreign, you wondered if you were still on planet Earth!”
Having spent time as a high school exchange student in Peru and as a preschool teacher in Mexico after college, Dr. White speaks Spanish. “But my talented office manager, Belinda Hernandez, and office-medical assistant, Jennifer Hernandez, are truly bilingual and are very helpful. We want all patients to feel welcome here.”
