Pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding can cause many changes to a woman’s body. Enter the “Mommy Makeover,” which plastic surgeons developed as a combination of cosmetic surgery procedures to help women get back their pre-baby shape.
The Mommy Makeover involves a combination of procedures performed as a single or multiple staged surgery designed to address physical changes that mothers often experience. The makeovers can also be performed for women who have lost significant weight.
The procedures included can address such issues as loss of volume in breasts, loose skin, and a flabby tummy, and correct weak or separated abdominal muscles. Each procedure within the makeover is intended to lift loose skin, reduce flabby pooches, and tighten body parts stretched during pregnancy and delivery.
While there are many body areas which can be improved during a Mommy Makeover, the most commonly reshaped areas are the breasts and abdomen.
Procedures often include:
- Breast augmentation and breast lifts. The augmentations and lifts can address reduced volume and sagging, while helping to return the breasts to a more youthful shape.
- Known more commonly as a “tummy tuck,” this procedure improves stretched abdominal skin and weak muscles. The surgeon removes excess skin and fat, tightens, and restores the abdominal muscles and can move the belly button back to a “normal” position.
- This contouring procedure helps sculpt and smooth problem areas that cannot be fixed by diet and exercise alone. Liposuction can smooth areas on the abdomen, hips, thighs, upper arms, knees, and neck.
Since pregnancy affects each woman differently, with age and genetics playing a role in how the body recovers, Mommy Makeovers are tailored to the individual and many factors are considered when choosing which techniques should be selected.
