Summer is nearly here, meaning the clothes are getting skimpier and more skin will soon be showing.
Increasingly, people are preparing for this season with cosmetic surgery.
Breast augmentations, liposuction and abdominoplasty – known as tummy tucks – have surged in popularity, according to the most-recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. There are also increases in the numbers of people choosing body-sculpting procedures such as buttock augmentations and thigh lifts.
It’s a trend that shows no signs of slowing.
For instance, twice as many people underwent breast lifts and tummy tucks in 2018 compared to a decade ago. The number of upper arm lifts increased by 5,030 percent.
Altogether, there were almost a quarter of a million more cosmetic surgery procedures in 2018 than in 2017.
Most surgical procedures can be done all year long, but March through May are popular months for breast augmentations as women get ready for sun-drenched days in swimsuits and balmy summer nights in sundresses.
Summer vacations are also popular times for surgical procedures since some people – like teachers and students – have extended summer vacations and plenty of recovery time.
Meanwhile, liposuction is considered the “gold standard” for body sculpting if a limited amount of downtown is necessary, according to the ASPS. Recovery time is well suited to a few weeks off.
As the summer heats up, if you find you’d like to feel more comfortable in your own skin, schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon to discuss what cosmetic procedures may be right for you.
